CIRG researchers published a study on the Czech music export office SoundCzech

The academic journal Mediální studia published a scholarly article by Miroslav Krši and Pavel Zahrádka critically evaluating the opportunities, obstacles, and challenges currently faced by the Czech music export office SoundCzech.

The study The Export Policy of Czech Music: An Institutional Analysis of the Export Office SoundCzech presents the results of an institutional analysis of the SoundCzech music export office and identifies the challenges and risks its staff currently face. The analysis also examines the relationship between the office’s strategic goals and the cultural policies of the Czech Republic and the European Union in the field of music. The first part of the study summarizes the current state of research on music export offices and music export in the Czech Republic. The second part describes EU and Czech cultural policies supporting the international circulation of European cultural content. The third part analyzes the functioning of the SoundCzech music export office, particularly in terms of risks and obstacles faced by its employees. The fourth and final part focuses on reconstructing the normative principles and effects of the export office’s operation. The study is an output of the research project Opportunities and Barriers of Cross-Border Distribution of Czech Music Production.

CIRG – the Cultural Industries Research Group focuses on research into cultural and media industries, particularly on current issues, challenges, and conflicts arising from tensions between intellectual property law, the business models of cultural industries, the digitalization and platformization of cultural sectors, and changing consumer habits.
