The methodology provides a summary of recommended practices and procedures that have been tested and validated by the authoring team. These enable users of the methodology to verifiably track the level of domestic music exports abroad and their development over time. The methodology was developed by members of the CIRG team: Michal Tomčík, Rudolf Leška, Jakub Řezníček, Pavel Zahrádka, Václav Hodonický, Rostislav Sliwka, Petr Szczepanik, and Radim Červenka.

The Methodology for Mapping the Export of Czech Music is designed to ensure that, if properly followed, the results obtained are demonstrable, replicable, and defensible. It is intended for the regular monitoring of the cross-border distribution of Czech (domestic) music. The methodology provides guidance for the systematic collection and analysis of data from various sources over time, while also specifying which particular sources should be used for these purposes.

Its primary target group consists of export offices such as SoundCzech. However, it can also be applied to the analysis of the cross-border commercial success of non-Czech music (e.g. when used by a Slovak export office). It may also be followed by anyone interested in monitoring or evaluating the use or success of domestic music abroad, such as industry platforms and associations (e.g. IFPI, Česká hudební rada), collective rights management organisations, as well as public institutions.

The methodology is an output of the project Opportunities and Barriers to the Export of Czech Music.
