The methodology provides a summary of recommended practices and procedures that have been tested and validated by the authoring team. By following it, users can reliably track the level of export of domestic music abroad and its development over time. It is designed to ensure that, when properly applied, the results obtained are demonstrable, reproducible, and defensible. The methodology is intended for the regular monitoring of the cross-border distribution of Czech (domestic) music. It offers guidance for the systematic collection and analysis of data from various sources over time and specifies which particular sources should be used for these purposes. Its primary target group consists of export offices such as SoundCzech; however, it can also be used to analyse the cross-border commercial success of non-Czech music (e.g. by a Slovak export office). It may also be applied by anyone interested in monitoring or evaluating the use or success of domestic music abroad, such as industry platforms and associations (e.g. IFPI, Česká hudební rada), collective rights management organisations, as well as public institutions.
